Henrik Williams is the renowned authority of Old Norse languages, returning to the ASI as an in-demand speaker on topics encompassing the Vikings, runes, Old Swedish and Old Icelandic.Awarded a 2015 Rudbeck medal for groundbreaking research, Williams is a scholar and Professor of Scandinavian Languages at Sweden’s Uppsala University.

His lecture, which will discuss some perhaps unexpected human activities recorded in runic inscriptions, is open to the public. Professor Henrik Williams’s research and international reputation have already elevated runic studies at Uppsala University to world-class standing, and—most significantly—the endowed chair will ensure that runic research and conservation of the runestones will continue beyond Professor Williams’s tenure.
